Your privacy is the foundation of Knowledge-Focus (also "KF", "the App"). Our goal is to provide a powerful tool that operates entirely on your device. By using Knowledge-Focus, you agree to this Privacy Policy.

Quick Summary: Your privacy is our priority. Knowledge-Focus works locally on your device. We do not collect or transmit your files or personal data. Optional features that connect to third-party services require your explicit consent and are governed by their own policies.

1. The Core Principle: Local First​

Knowledge-Focus is designed to be a local-first application. The core functionality of scanning, indexing, searching, and managing your files happens exclusively on your computer.

2. Information We Do NOT Collect or Transmit​

We want to be crystal clear about what we do not do. By default, the App does not and will not ever:

  • Read the content of your files for any purpose other than local indexing and analysis as initiated by you.
  • Transmit your file contents, file names, or any data derived from them to our servers or any third party.
  • Collect personal information such as your name, email address, or location.
  • Track your activity across other applications or websites.

Some advanced features are optional and require you to explicitly enable them. These are the only circumstances under which any data leaves your device.

Third-Party LLM API Integration​

The App allows you to connect to third-party Large Language Model (LLM) services (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic, Google) using your own API key.

  • What is Sent: When you use a feature powered by this integration (like generating tags from file content), a snippet of your file's text content and its path may be sent directly to the third-party service you configured.
  • Our Role: We are a conduit in this process. Your data is sent from the App on your device directly to the third-party provider. It does not pass through our servers.
  • Your Responsibility: Your use of these third-party services is governed by their respective privacy policies. We strongly encourage you to review them.

Anonymous Usage Analytics (Optional)​

To help us improve the App, we may ask for your permission to collect completely anonymous and aggregated usage data.

  • What is Collected: This may include information like which features are used most often, application performance data, and crash reports.
  • Anonymity: This data contains no personally identifiable information and cannot be linked back to you or your files.
  • Control: This feature will be opt-in, meaning we will not collect this data unless you explicitly agree.

4. Data Security​

Since all your primary data is stored locally on your device, the security of your data is directly tied to the security of your computer. We are not responsible for unauthorized access to your computer. For optional features requiring an API key, we store the key securely in your operating system's keychain or equivalent secure storage.

5. Children's Privacy​

The App is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children.

6. Changes to This Privacy Policy​

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes by posting the new policy within the App or on our website.
